Ten Products by Eight Companies Approved for 2.5GHz Mobile WiMAX Certification

At the WiMAX Forum Global Congress in Amsterdam, the WiMAX Forum announced that it has issued the first batch of certified mobile WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) products running at the 2.5GHz frequency band, including four base stations and six mobile station modules by Intel, Motorola, Samsung, Alvarion, Airspan, Zyxel, Beceem, and Sequans, according to a press release by the WiMAX Forum on June 17.

In addition, the WiMAX Forum claimed that more than 100 mobile WiMAX products will be certified by year-end 2008, and the number of certified products will increase tenfold by 2010 to about 1,000 units. Meanwhile, the WiMAX Forum also announced its plan to accept certification applications for 3.5GHz equipment during the third quarter of 2008 and conduct tests in the fourth quarter of 2008. By the end of 2008, the first batch of products running at 3.5GHz will be approved by the Forum, according to the press release.
